MY HERITAGE , MY STYLE

Alas.....The promised post!

Hi Muffins,
Its a lovely day to be posting. I'm actually very excited for reasons I can't explain. You remember how I mentioned May is a special month for me, maybe that's it.....can't help but be very positive about everything. I'm very chatty today so do prepare yourselves for a wordy post.

This post is very dear to me because I chose the fabric of this skirt as well as the design...how cool is that.
I'm proudly African, which makes it purely natural that I have African prints in my closet (which is where 'my heritage' comes in). However, being in the 21st century it's only normal that I do pick up on the modern times ('my style' comes in). Hence the title today.
Anyway, I bought this fabric in January from my friend Cheptala. He gets them from Tanzania which is why the prints are a little different from what you find in the Kenyan market.

After purchasing the fabric I landed in a huge dilemma on what to make with it, believe me when I say it took me ages to settle on a wrap skirt with a slight twist (midi length & asymmetric front). Anyway, I finally took the fabric to may tailor Glory in Kibera and had it done by mid- March.
Glory is my best tailor ever, she always nails my designs and I love her for it.

So that's the short story behind this gorgeous skirt.

Whenever my mind goes active with design, it won't stop....which is why I paired the skirt with this black (falling neck + open back) top, in the same spirit I did add a pair of black leather gloves.  I wanted a look that strikes you from the front and still keeps you glued from the back....(giggles).

I think I nailed it.

Do you think I overdid it, showed too much or was it the right balance of style and sassy? Leave your thoughts in the comments section.

This right here is the reason I bought metallic tattoos. I love a detailed back....no need to to have a backless top on if there is nothing interesting going on.

I felt very compelled to have this Masai bead work on....don't ask me why.

I may have raided my friends' closet a few days before the photo shoot and these shoes just appealed to me......they just had to grace the blog.

Black top - Thrifted
Ankara skirt - Custom Made by Glory
Shoes - Njoki
Metallic tatoos - Atiat Online
Masai Accessories - Masai Market
Leather Gloves - Gikomba

I hope you enjoyed this post ladies and gents. It has been a pleasure entertaining you...till the next one, stay safe.

Lots of love,

Linet

  17. Heritage fashion
Classy couture is brand owned by a South African village girl who moved to the city for greener pastures.Deep down inside she is still that village girl trying to adapt to the city life .Her identity is in the village and very inspired by the Tswana culture.
